I enjoyed four great years servicing Hawk, Hunter and Meteor ejection seats at RAF Brawdy in the 1980’s. Of all the postings I had, servicing ejection seats was the most enjoyable. It was made even more rewarding when a seat I serviced saved a life.
As maintainers, we are so lucky to be able to play a small part in saving lives through our attention to detail and ensuring the seats are serviced correctly to MB standards. The RAF pilot (in my seat) and the American pilot on exchange both got out as the photo shows at the handle presentation. I was on leave at the time hence the civvies on the right. Being an armourer really was the best job.
