CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Martin-Baker’s CSR focus is steered and underpinned by our Vision, Mission and Values. Explore our focus areas below.
Community
Our charitable giving scheme donates to local charities, including Thames Hospice.
Martin-Baker have been committed supporters of Thames Hospice for a number of years and we have seen firsthand the vital comfort and support that is provided to the local community. We know that all the fundraising really does make a difference to those that are experiencing the hardest of times. We sponsored the 2023 Thames Hospice Sunflower Walk, which took place around the scenic Bray and Dorney Lakes, where participants completed either a 2.5km ramble, a 10km power walk or a challenging half marathon hike. Our employees took part, including our Photographic and Environmental Test teams.
We support our local communities in a variety of ways, some recent highlights including:
- Providing pitch access and changing facilities to a local youth football club, ‘The Martin-Baker Hurricanes’, in Denham.
- Donating to a fundraiser by the Chalgrove Cavaliers for their youth teams, ladies’ football and walking football.
- Aiding in the purchase of new books for Denham Village School, as a result of new methods to teach reading nationwide.
- Supporting a charity bike ride by the National Police Air Service (NPAS)
- Donating to the Denham Bowls Club to assist with upkeep of the green and clubhouse.
Education & Outreach
We have worked with Birmingham University and Queens University Belfast for a number of years to help tackle the under provision of STEM subjects at both GCSE and A Level. We fund foundation degrees and provide scholarships in STEM disciplines with the aim to support those from a lower socio-economic background.
We invest in capabilities for the long term, through our people, systems and processes, enabling our employees to grow through the business. Our People and Personal Development focus area is demonstrated through our initiatives, and the importance of giving back to the local community that supports us.
We have established new trainee programmes in a variety of disciplines to boost technical competence, allowing us to employ and support those with natural aptitude but no formal training.
We have active Apprenticeship, Year in Industry and Graduate programmes, and we promote Engineering in young people and less represented groups, through local school talks and work experience.
Environmental
At Martin-Baker we have been taking steps to reduce our impact on the planet and look at new ways of positively contributing to the environment. Being accountable in addressing the issues and working proactively to improve our footprint is important to us.
We have installed solar panels on our factory which allows us to generate our own electricity, reducing our energy usage and CO2 emissions.
We were early adopters of ISO 14001 Certification. This accreditation means we consider our impact through every stage of production, from acquiring raw materials to disposing of the product after use, adhering to standards and engaging in regular audits.
We partner with businesses that share our views on sustainability and ethics. For example, our catering providers, Bartlett Mitchell, have received multiple awards and recognition for their efforts in measuring and reducing their carbon footprint, sourcing locally in the UK where possible and ensuring a responsible supply chain globally.
We have created, rewilded and protected areas at our Denham site to enhance biodiversity.
