Tie Club # 3079

I parted company from my Harrier GR3 XW766 following an engine failure at low level in Northern Germany on 4 October 1979. Since I was operating from a field site at the time, requiring a maximum performance take-off from a small strip and a vertical landing back into the site, it was very fortunate that the engine failed when it did, in normal flight. The seat sequence worked perfectly, which I had every confidence that it would, and my badly sprained ankle was the result of my inept parachute landing – a small price to pay for being here today. A full, enjoyable and rewarding career in aviation and 3 sons and 3 granddaughters later, I have much to thank Martin-Baker for!
