I served in the Royal Air Force as an Armourer from 1977-2001. I worked with ejection seats on both the Jaguar and Tornado GR1. For more than five years of my career, I taught at the Weapons Training Squadron at No. 2 School of Technical Training, RAF Cosford, specifically the Aircraft Assisted Escape Systems (Ejection Seats) phase. Looking at my records, I took over 500 future ejection seat maintainers through their training. It’s gratifying to see some of their names in your Maintainer Stories.
Towards the end of my career I spent two years loaned to the Sultan of Oman’s Air Force, again teaching ejection seat maintainers. Teaching students whose first language is not English gave me a new appreciation for the art of being able to explain something in several different ways.
