I earned entry into the Martin-Baker Tie Club in July 1976 when our F4D had a flight control malfunction as we were taking off from RAF Lakenheath. We had not even cleared the end of the runway when I ejected the pilot and myself. It was a close call, but both of your seats in our fighter worked to perfection. Thank you!
Although I used the handles above my head, I was able to retrieve the other lower handle, as well as the MacDonald Douglass aircraft placard, from the wreckage collected by the safety investigation team. Photo enclosed.
