Lt. Col. Richard Fairlamb USAF
“49 YEARS, and counting…..since the “Martin-Baker Magical Chair” lifted me out of a dying Phantom II in Southern Laos—the Ides of March, 1968 (the 15th)—and your lovely British “silk” let me down……onto the tops of 250’ jungle canopy trees. In fact, good ‘ole F-4C #63-7701 blew up, BEFORE I hit the trees, and before it even hit the ground!!!
I made it down out of the trees… and walked on the ground in Laos for a couple of hours… and left them my “Bone Dome”!
The picture is an actual photo of me and 2 of my 3 “hooch-mates” in the living quarters at Cam Rahn Bay AB, RVN, on the evening of my return from being picked up by “Jolly Green” HH-3 (Sikorsky) helicopter in Laos. A LOOOONG, COOL ONE was the order of the day (or, evening!).
Thank YOU!, Sir James…..and all your great Martin-Baker employees …… for giving me 49 more years of LIFE, since that day.”
